Imprisonment for Destroying the Ozone Layer

It was quite astounding to learn and read that people will get actually convicted for contributing to the depletion of the Ozone Layer. I never think that it will be possible but it is. In New Zealand at least this is true as two engineers were convicted for being found guilty of releasing gases that depletes the ozone layer.

The pair released an ozone depleting substance, chlorodifluoromethane HCFC22, into the atmosphere as they were repairing a drinks chiller, and ignored a warning that it was hazardous.

The Ministry said it took the case as a warning to industry. The two were convicted and fined NZ$750 each (290 pounds).

I hope that more countries will emulate this resolved of the New Zealand government to really protect the environment. As I always say, environmental protection should be non-negotiable!
