WCYF 2009 Receives Endorsement from UNESCO Office

UNESCO and Prof. Dr. Hubert Gijzen Endorses WCYF 2009

The 1st Workd Creative Youth Forum (WCYF) 2009 on Education for Sustainable Development had been officially endorsed by UNESCO Jakarta Office through Prof. Hubert Gijzen, Regional Director of UNESCO Jakarta Office. The Jakarta Office is the cluster office for Brunei Darrusalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines and Timor Leste. It is also the Regional Science Bureau for Asia and the Pacific. HRH Prince Frederick von Saxe-Lauenberg, Co-Chairperson of the Executive Committee received the official endorsement December 16.

"It is my great pleasure to be able to confirm our association and our support as a co-sponsors of the "1st World Creative Youth Forum 2009 (WCYF2009): Education for Sustainable Development", which will be held in the Philippines in 2009." says Prof. Hubert Gijzen.

The Executive Committee welcomes this enbdorsement as a great way of finally inviting others to join and make WCYF 2009 a great possibility. "We have many obstacles in realizing this event especially in getting funds and sponsors but I believe this will happen in 2009 because the Earth will help us achieve it." says David D'Angelo, Co-Chairperson of the Executive Committee.

"To place youth as the bridge that connects education and sustainable development is very much in line with UNESCO's mandate, and with the goals of the United Nations Decade on Education for Sustainable Development (DESD, 2005-2014). We at UNESCO see young people as critical stakeholders in all aspects of development, and we believe their energy, motivation and vision are essential aspects for positive social change. Thus, we are at the opinion that the aim of WCYF 2009 to engage young people in taking proactive action and engagement to contribute to the achievement of a sustainable future constitutes a very valuable initiative."
