ECO Singapor sends delagation to ECO Delegation to UN CSD
Founded in 2003, ECO Singapore is the pioneering youth-led environmental organisation that aims to challenge youth of age 17-35 to adopt a more sustainable lifestyle and embrace environmental issues holistically. ECO Singapore actively drives and support both local and global environmental initiatives involving other environmental stakeholders.
From May 3rd to May 14th, ECO Singapore will be sending a youth delegation to the 18th Session of the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD-18) that will be held in UN Headquarters in New York.
The team that we be there are a bunch of passionate individual who believe that sustainable development is a key principle to solving many of the world's issues. During the conference, we will be part of the youth major group, which forms a crucial part of the civil society component at the conference. ECO will engage in various activities that will include making statements at plenary sessions, lobbying with government delegates and participating in side events that will highlight best practices from all over the world.
The thematic issues of CSD-18 are sustainable consumption and production, transport, waste management, chemicals and mining. No doubt, these issues are relevant to Singapore and the region and therefore we believe that participation of the local population in creating local and global solutions to these problems is essential. ECO Singapore hopes to better understand pertinent socio-economic issues as well as its interlinkages with environmental problems the world is facing. Thus, as global citizens, they will be able to contribute ideas which lead to action plans that may be implemented in the future.
ECO Singapore has a blog which they will continue updates regarding the various plenary sessions and other activities at the following web link: http://uncsdsingapore.wordpress.com
