New Zealand was rank number 78th in the FIFA World Rankings and Italy was at number 4 but on Sunday's match they were just even. New Zealand manage to take a draw against defending champion Italy in the World Cup 2010 group preliminaries, a feat many says will go down in the annals of World Cup history.
In another World Cup 2010 trivia, it is quite an irony that Italy who is the defending champion have yet to won a game here. Both of their initial matches had been a draw. The teams in the World Cup 2010 had greatly improve. First there was Switzerland shocking Spain and now here is New Zealand making the most impressive performance of their lives.
A few days ago, last Tuesday, New Zealand earned its first-ever World Cup point. However, this is not yet a reason to celebrate as they still have to defeat Paraguay in the last match of the group preliminaries to advance to the next round. Paraguay had also made impressing performance in the World Cup and leads Group F with 4 points.
Indeed Africa is magical. An news reporter from Yahoo, Carter Daly states, "I guess when they said that if a World Cup came to Africa, anything could happen, they really meant it. I don't know if it's the Jabulani, the altitude, magical giraffes, or the vuvuzelas, but in this World Cup of 2010 absolutely anything can, and will, happen."
In next week's match, New Zealand will again be an underdog against Paraguay. Can the Kiwis pull a third upset in their matches or will Paraguay be the stronger team this time? Watch their game on June 24, 2010 10:00 EDT at Peter Mokaba Stadium, Polokwane. Well. that's just three days from now.
