Obama Iraq Speech Ends US Combat Mission in Iraq
WASHINGTON D.C., UNITED STATES: President Barack Obama delivered a message to the American people and to the world as well stating the end of the combat operations in Iraq, the plan to end the war in Afghanistan and rebuilding the economy at home.
President Obama also acknowledge the efforts of former President George W. Bush and considers their difference in position. He said that Bush also made sacrifices and that like him, the welfare of US soldiers are of their highest regard and interest.
"Going forward, a transitional force of U.S. troops will remain in Iraq with a different mission: advising and assisting Iraq's Security Forces, supporting Iraqi troops in targeted counterterrorism missions, and protecting our civilians," said President Obama
He also announced the all U.S. troops will leave by the end of next year. Obama also stressed that in the end the country and their officials are the ones truly responsible to reclaim their country and make it prosperous. He said that no one can do it for them.
With the shift in paradigm, Obama said that the US government must focus in rebuilding America and in making its economy more stable and overcome the problems that the country is facing at the moment. Specifically Obama is referring to the high unemployment rate that the US now has, it now stands at more than 9%.
