SM, San Beda alumni tie up for native tree planting in Bulacan
In support of the government’s National Greening Program, SM Supermalls through its SM Cares Environment Committee joined hands with the San Beda College Alumni Foundation (SBCAF) in planting indigenous and endemic trees in identified public schools in Bulacan held on September 4.
SBCAF’s “A Pinoy Tree for Every School” program aims to encourage teachers and students in planting and raising native trees which will make every school an urban native forest. The project will also help in the promotion of biodiversity and the preservation of indigenous trees which are slowly disappearing.
Among the endemic and native tree species planted were yakal saplungan, white lauan, palosapis, apitong, guijo, ipil, mayapis, almon, botong, putat and banaba. Tree saplings were planted at the campuses of Malolos Marine Fishery School and Laboratory and the City of Malolos Integrated School in Barangay Sto. Rosario.
Present to grace the native tree planting event were SBCAF President Dr. Jaime Galvez Tan, Hortica Filipina Foundation Director, Ms. Imelda Sarmiento, SM Supermalls Regional Operations Manager Emmanuel Navera Jr., Division Schools Superintendent, Mr. Amancio Villamejo Jr. and SM City Baliwag’s Arch. Andrew Cristobal.
