President Rodrigo "Digong" Duterte will be delivering his first State of the Nation Address (SONA), July 25, 2016. It seems that Congressman Pantaleon "Bebot" Alvarez will be the Speaker of the House and Senator Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel Junior as the Senate President of the 17th Congress. The results of the voting for the speaker of the House of Representatives for the 17th Congress as follows:

Hon. Panteleon Alvarez - 251 votes
Hon. Danny Suarez - 7 votes
Hon. Teddy Baguila - 8 votes
Abstain - 21 votes
No Vote - 1 vote

Meanwhile in the senate, Senator Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel was elected as the new Senate President with 20 senators signing the resolution.Former Senate President Franklin Drilon is the new Senate President Pro-tempore while Senator Vicente 'Tito' Sotto III is the Majority Floor Leader.

It was an interesting election since former Duterte running mate Allan Peter Cayetano was also in the running for the Senate President position. Despite his full support during the campaign he lost both the Vice Presidency and the Senate Presidency.
