What's Wrong with Victor Magtanggol?

Once again GMA stirred the discussion with their new series Victor Magtanggol which stars Alden Richards.  Alden is playing the character of Victor who is supposed to be the successor to hold Thor's Mjolnir.  Whenever he is wielding it he became the superhero "Hammerman," which somewhat mimics Thor itself.

This is a concept which creates a new story based on the lore of Norse Mythology.  What's wrong with Victor Magtanggol of GMA then?  A bunch and here it is.  But first, this articles does not bash nor does it call to boycott the show.  I only want to share my views and constructive criticism.

Victor Magtanggol Major Plot Issue

The major issue with the plot of using Norse Mythology for the series originates from the mythology itself.  Odin and the Norse are very envious and only provides a blessing to their people and those that worship them.

If you are watching the History Channel series Vikings, you will know how vengeful the Norse gods are and how they punish the unworthy.  With this as the guiding principle, how can Victor inherit the Mjolnir when he is not a Norse nor is he worshipping the Norse gods?  Can someone explain this to me?

The Norse Gods Interacting with Non-Believers

Again, this is a major issue.  Any Norse god would not and would never interact nor favor a non-believer.  The Norse mythology has gods and this is like a religion, why would they even care about those who do not believe them.

I would understand Loki wanting to destroy some place or the country since we are a non-believer but come on these characters helping us - NO WAY!

Riding with Pop Culture Popularity

We can all agree that no one owns Norse mythology and even Marvel borrows from such but we can also see that this series tries to ride on the popularity of Thor and the Avengers concept.  We had so much of these copycats or adaptation of a lore where the storytelling in some ways lack originality.

Another ride on here is EX-B which sings the song for Victor Magtanggol.  Since the group is popular, GMA can ensure that their fans would also follow this show as a symbol of support for their idol.

Alternative Plot to Connect to the Norse Mythology

What if Alden Richards' Victor Magtanggol is an archeologist which in his quest to dig ancient ruins stumble upon a gate leading to the world of the Norse gods.  There he accidentally gets embroiled in a plot which involves the death of Thor and the search for a new holder of the Mjolnir.  Since the future of Asgard and Earth hangs in the balance they need to find someone who will not be suspected to carry the Mjolnir, therefore not an Asgardian.

This is when in his dying moments, Thor wilfully gave the Mjolnir to Victor and he flees to the Philippines to protect the secret.  Loki, then finds out of the plot and due to his greediness wants to have the Mjolnir for himself or kill the hero that is not even an Asgardian.  He then travels to the Philippines to wreak havoc on its people and kill Victor.

What do you think of that?

Verdict for Victor Magtanggol

The intention of the show was really good - delivering and sending positive values.  The costume and the initial preview of effects was also laudable.  I am also sure that all the casts here are really good and talented and kudos for that.  They would make the show Victor Magtanggol in a sense still worthwhile to consider watching.

I would not mock nor say anything about the acting or the storyline being linked to Thor and the Norse Gods because I think it can be a story but isn't there better stories and lore to explore?  I cannot really imagine the concept behind this show.  Can you?

Will people watch it?  Based on the YouTube video comments I think there would be a following on this but it would not be as phenomenal still with Ang Probinsyano or any other original show like the original Encantadia or Mulawin.

If you think I am wrong about this then please enlighten me.
