Transgenders in Miss Universe Pageant
Miss Universe Spain Angela Ponce became the very first transgender to compete in Miss Universe. This raises a lot of questions and a lot of eyebrows even for members of the LGBTQ community. Is this a step in the right direction or was it just too much?
We should respect what the Miss Universe Pageant is all about, it is about women - "natural women." It is not about just being a woman in physical appearance and in body but essentially being there as a naturally born woman.
Not allowing Transgenders to participate in pageants such as this is not discrimination. It is maintaining something that is intrinsically the essence of such a competition.
Human Rights and Equality
Human Rights, for me personally means the rights of a human being to be observed. These are rights that are inherently natural to live in peace and harmony without harming one another. Allowing Transgender at the Miss Universe Beauty Pageant personally is not something that is included in these rights. We should respect what the Miss Universe Pageant is all about, it is about women - "natural women." Miss Universe Allowed Transgenders Since 2012
The ruling to allow Transgenders to participate in Miss Universe came in 2012 when Jenna Talackova from the Miss Canada competition threatened legal action for her disqualification. Former Miss Universe owner, now US President Donald Trump changed the rules to allow transgender contestants in its pageants.“As long as she meets the standards of legal gender recognition requirements of Canada, which we understand that she does, Jenna Talackova is free to compete in the 2012 Miss Universe Canada pageant. Nobody is capitulating . . . Like all the other contestants, [Talackova] is wished the best of luck by Mr. Trump.” - Trump attorney Michael CohenTalackova just finished 12th in the Miss Canada pageant. This ruling eventually paved the way for the inclusion of Miss Spain in the Miss Universe this year.
